Kona Bay Residence
When a Colorado mountain client of ours, (for whom we had already designed a Colorado home), approached us about designing their home on The Big Island, we turned them down. They, then, moved forward and subsequently fired two other architecture firms in Hawaii. When they approached us again, we agreed.
One of the incredible structural feats of the project was that it was entire built on piers, allowing for large swells of sea to flow unobstructed under the house and decks. With the help of the geotechnical engineer, the piers were set into the lava landscape. What a creative project on the water in Kona Bay. We had a blast working with our clients on this house. We hope they call us for the next house, too!
